Ward Melville High School senior Emily McGinley's is the first recipient of this school year's News 12 Scholar Athlete Award.
McGinley, a starting defender for the lacrosse team, helped the girls reach the county finals last season. She is also team captain for the field hockey team.
In addition, McGinley is secretary of the Key Club, treasurer of the Student Athlete Leadership Team and volunteers organizing holiday meals and coat drives for people in need.
