New Jersey’s newest Bass Pro Shop is set to open this fall, and it will be the largest single-story Bass Pro Shop in the country.

The 200,000-square-foot store is still under construction off the Garden State Parkway in Sayreville, near the intersection of Interstate 95 and Interstate 287, within the Riverton retail complex. A 400-acre site along the Raritan River and Raritan Bay.

News 12 got an exclusive first look inside as work continues.

The store’s lobby features a large, functional fireplace and murals honoring New Jersey’s landscape and wildlife. According to the general manager, Alex Rusanov, it is a staple for the shops.

“Every Bass Pro Shops is designed and built based on the heritage of where it’s being built, based on the nature around where the store is being built,” the general manager said. “It’s the same thing with this store.”

When open, shoppers will find sections dedicated to hunting, firearms, footwear, fishing and marine gear, and even an archery range to test out bows. The space will even store and sell boats.

The store’s centerpiece will be its aquarium exhibits. “It’s going to be over 70,000 gallons,” Rusanov said of the aquarium. “We’re going to have stingrays around the fish tank for the community that you’ll be able to kind of pet and interact with as well.”

The main tank will be surrounded by a 12,000-gallon ray touch pool, live jellyfish and an interactive Sketch Aquarium for kids.

Beyond hunting and fishing gear, the store will carry equipment and clothing for hiking, biking, backpacking, wildlife viewing and camping, along with wildlife dioramas and free seasonal experiences.

No exact opening date has been announced, but Bass Pro Shops says construction is ongoing and a grand opening date will be revealed soon.

In the meantime, the retailer is ramping up hiring. Bass Pro Shops will hold hiring events at the Sayreville store Tuesday, July 28, and Wednesday, July 29, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Those interested are encouraged to apply in advance.

The company is hiring full-time and part-time “Outfitters” across all departments.

“We already had one hiring event, so we’re going to have employees here building the store from the ground up,” Rusanov said. “So you better believe it, you’re going to blink and the store is going to be open.”

The Sayreville Bass Pro Shop is located at 1 Bass Pro Drive.
