Saddle River police are warning parents to monitor their children’s phones after several young girls received a hoax text message posing as the police department.
The message reads, “This is the Saddle River Police. STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND RUN AWAY FROM HOME! Bad pleople (sic) are after you. Contact this number when you have done so.” The word people was notably spelled incorrectly.
Police are also warning parents to speak with their children about the message and how to treat other strange messages they could potentially receive in the future.
Anyone who received the hoax message is asked to contact police.
