(03/07/06) NEW BRUNSWICK ? Rutgers University President Richard McCormick outlined major changes to his school?s structure Tuesday in an effort to cut costs and do away with red tape.

One major portion of the plan includes merging the university?s separate colleges located on the New Brunswick and Piscataway campuses. This will help make admission standards and scholastic requirements uniform for both Livingston College and Cook College. According to McCormick, the move will enhance the overall quality of education at Rutgers.

In addition, McCormick will keep the all-female dorms at Douglass College. The curriculum at the school will also focus on women?s issues, but the school itself will not remain a separate college. The Rutgers University Board of Governors will vote on the reorganization plan Friday.
