A Rutgers University graduate is among five Americans released from an Iranian prison.
Siamak Namazi has been detained in Iran since 2015. The 52-year-old graduated from Rutgers in 1998 with a degree in Urban Planning and Regional Development.
The Americans who were freed landed in Doha, Qatar. They were expected to return to the United States Monday night.
President Joe Biden celebrated the release, adding that they endured “years of agony, uncertainty and suffering.”
The release was part of a deal that included the United States unfreezing $6 billion in Iranian funds.
