(03/10/06) NEW BRUNSWICK ? The Rutgers Board of Governors overwhelmingly approved massive changes to the University?s structure Friday.

Under the new plan, all of the university?s separate colleges will be brought together under one academic umbrella. The restructuring will create a single admissions standard and basic curriculum for all of the colleges. Supporters of the plan say the new structure will eliminate academic hassle and red tape at the university.

One member of the board, David Harris, spoke out vehemently against the plan. Harris says the restructuring will make it difficult for minorities and women to find success at the school. The new plan will go into effect with freshmen entering the school in 2007. Students currently enrolled will graduate from the college to which they were accepted.
