The Route 71/Main Street Bridge in Monmouth County is closed and detoured for emergency repairs to the drawbridge.
The Department of Transportation says it will force the Route 71 Bridge to open by crane Tuesday after it broke a week ago. This will allow marine traffic from Belmar Marina to get back to work.
News 12 New Jersey’s Tony Caputo visited Belmar to see how the brick-and-mortar business owners may be negatively affected.
The detours are expected to be in place for several months. According to the DOT, a crane will force the opening of the bridge to marine traffic and then make the necessary repairs on a bridge leaf that will allow the draw bridge to open and close properly once again.
