Drivers in Union Beach could see some delays after a transformer failure shut down a busy intersection along Route 36.
Union Avenue is blocked at Route 36 while police and utility crews work at the scene. Northbound traffic on Route 36 is still flowing through the intersection but no turns being allowed.
Officials on scene said the issue appears to stem from a blown transformer, not downed wires as initially reported.
The traffic signal at the intersection is without power.
News 12 observed police blocking off the area while utility crews assessed the damage.
The Burger King near the intersection is also without power.
Crews appear to be waiting for a replacement transformer to arrive so repairs can be made.
Authorities have not said how long the closure will remain in place.
