The nurses at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital are off the picket line and back at work Thursday.
The nurses had been on a 25-day strike in an effort to get better health care coverage in their contract. A new contract was approved by the nurses? union Sunday night. The new contract includes wage increases of 3 percent in each year of the agreement. Most importantly, the new deal has two different health plans that provide 100 percent coverage as long as nurses stay in the network of doctors and facilities.
The hospital had been using replacement nurses since the strike started. Many nurses say it is good to be back at work and are looking forward to putting the strike behind them.
