Police are searching for a brazen bandit whose latest robbery nearly turned fatal for a Montclair store clerk.Business owners on Pine Street are increasing security after two robberies and one burglary on the street in less than a week. The latest incident occurred Sunday around 6 a.m. in which a robber shot a clerk at Crowd Around Deli once in the ear and fired another bullet into his chest. In another incident, police say Jose Cabides was robbed at gunpoint last week. Cabides gave more than $150 to a man in a ski mask. The robber also made off with a cash register at Memma's Bake Shop in the middle of the night last week, according to police.Tara Green, of Memma's Bake Shop, says the robberies seem to be progressively getting more violent. She hopes police will step up patrol on the street before the robberies turn deadly.
