Some retired firefighters are outraged Monday after learning the American flag that flew outside the Hoboken Fire Museum was desecrated.

Retired Fire Chief Bill Bergin says he is furious that someone tore the flag down and ripped it apart. "The flag is only a couple of months old and you can see it's been ripped down the seam, but you can also see that it had to be cut." A number of Bergin's fellow retired firefighters are also angry especially since they are also war veterans.

According to Bergin, a neighbor noticed the flag on the sidewalk Saturday morning. He thinks it may have been a late-night prank, saying Hoboken is a popular place where people come, get drunk and wreak havoc.

The Exempt Fireman's Association, which runs the museum, is offering a $1,000 reward to help catch the person or persons responsible for the vandalism.
