The Howell community is in mourning Monday after a woman was shot and killed by her husband, despite having a restraining order.
Police say Gina Sgambati had a restraining order against her husband Sebastian Sgambati, 64, when he shot her in the head while she was sitting in her car in the Howell Commons strip mall parking lot on Route 9. Police say the incident happened in broad daylight Sunday. They say Sebastian used his car to block her escape route before shooting her repeatedly at point blank range. Police then followed Sebastian to another location, but when they confronted him he turned the gun on himself.
Students and faculty at Taunton Elementary School, where Gina worked as a teacher's aide, are grief stricken. The school has counselors on hand to help students and staff through this emotional time. Gina also worked at the Dress Barn in Howell, which is where she lost her life.
