The Asbury Park Press surveyed salaries in 41 Jersey Shore towns and now many residents are angry over how much local government officials are being paid.
In Long Branch, the town?s financial officer, Ronald Mehlhorn, has been ranked the highest paid government worker, earning over $300,000 a year. According to Mehlhorn, that includes over $100,000 in unused vacation time he has saved over the past 29 years.
According to the survey, one in 11 public workers earns over $100,000, while six workers earn over $200,000 a year. Among those highest paid are several local police chiefs and school superintendents.
