Libraries throughout the Bronx and city are reportedly open less than most libraries across the country. According to the Daily News, New York public libraries are open an average of 38 hours each week. That is about 30 percent less than libraries in other big cities. Mayor Bloomberg (R-NY) recently promised to extend library hours up to two hours a week. The state is also giving Bronx and city libraries an added $8 million in funding.
