Rep. Gottheimer announces plans to combat antisemitism, Islamophobia

The congressman wants to investigate groups pretending to be student organizations to see if they are being funded by Hamas or other terror groups.

Rep. Josh Gottheimer was joined with other state and local leaders to announce major steps toward combatting antisemitism and Islamophobia.

Gottheimer, a Democrat who is also Jewish, is calling on the Justice and Treasury departments to investigate groups pretending to be student organizations to see if they are being funded by Hamas or other terror groups.

Gottheimer is also asking the Department of Education to look into the use of face masks by anti-Israel protesters at Rutgers University and elsewhere. He says it is a move designed to intimidate and threaten Jewish students.

The congressman says he managed to secure almost $300,000 in nonprofit security grants for both the Glen Rock Jewish Center and Sikh Gurdwara.
