Commuters at the Hoboken PATH station are bracing for a nearly month long construction project to begin by the end of the work week.

The Hoboken PATH Station will close at 11:59 p.m. on Jan. 30 and reopen at 5 a.m. on Feb. 25 for track and station upgrades.

“I really wish we could still take the train with the construction going on, but there’s nothing we can do,” said Shyam Parikh, a local student and regular PATH user.

Like Parikh, Mike DeSousa, of Hoboken, also takes the PATH train three to four times a week. As disruptive as he views the upgrades as, he also sees them as necessary.

“I rely on [the PATH], but it’s necessary. It’s going to hurt, but there’s other alternatives,” DeSousa said.

During construction, PATH tickets will be cross honored for the NY Waterway ferries between Hoboken and New York for $3.00. They will run every 10 minutes.

“It’s freezing. I won’t be taking the ferry,” said Samantha Mautner, of New York City.

Others say they will try the ferry, but view it as a more ideal travel option during the warmer months.

“I’ve never taken the ferry from here to the city. Some people are opting for that, but I think most people are just going to get onto the crowded buses,” said Amanda S., of Brooklyn.

NJ Transit also will be servicing more 126 buses that travel from Hoboken to the Port Authority.

“As great as they try to make the public transportation system here, they don’t always match the time that they say that they’re supposed to arrive in the app,” said Juliette Rodrigues, of Hoboken. “This past year already, because of congestion prices in the city, a lot of people have been taking the buses more frequently, so there aren’t enough spots on each bus. There are long lines, cold days -- it’s tough.”

PATH is also providing free shuttle buses 24 hours a day, seven days a week between Hoboken, Newport, and Exchange Place stations.

According to an alert sent out:
