There have been nine fires in 11 days in Union County and the Red Cross says is it running out of cash to help families.
Four of the fires occurred in Plainfield. Fire officials say the worst one happened Wednesday at a Park Avenue apartment building. Red Cross officials say for the past 11 days they have been helping 48 families, including the nine affected by the Park Avenue fire.
The Red Cross says it has provided food and shelter for those families who lost most of what they owned. However, they say the high number in such a short period of time is draining their funds. The Red Cross says it is reaching out to area businesses for more money.
