‘Rebuild confidence and travel’: COVID-19 test available to travelers at Newark airport
People can start
getting a COVID-19 test Monday if they
are traveling through Newark Liberty International Airport.
According to
airport officials, travelers can get the test on the spot at an XpresCheck
testing facility in the United Airlines Terminal C baggage claim area.
“This is the best way for us to open up our borders again in the
safest manner,” says Mike Erbeck, vice president of Newark Liberty
International Airport for United Airlines.
People have the
option of a rapid or PCR test while they
are at the airport.
“I think to continue to build and rebuild confidence and travel,”
says Scott Milford, XpresSpa chief operating officer. “The way for folks to be
able to do that is to feel confident in whether in whether or not they are in
fact infected or carrying the virus.”
There are four
separate testing rooms, with an anticipated capacity to administer over 300
tests per day.

“We opened our first location
in June of last year at JFK, that’s our original location,” says Milford. “All
of our other facilities are doing quite well. We are both pre-security and post
security.”
People who test positive will not be permitted to board.
The cost for the rapid testing is $200, but customers can submit
the cost to their insurance company.
