There are plenty of places to work if you're looking for a summer job. But one of the fields that is hiring the most this summer is expected to be ground transportation.
News 12 New Jersey visited Gem Worldwide Ground Transportation Service in Woodbridge to find out why the industry is so hot, and how you can get to your next outing going in style.
Gem Worldwide began in 1976 as a mom-and-pop business. And 47 years later, it's the third largest ground transportation company in New Jersey, and it's still growing.
"We specialize in corporate ground transportation with fortune 500 companies, but there is a lot of retail work as well,” said Gen Worldwide president Joe Gulino. "Currently we have 130 vehicles. We're at 150 employees and I need well over 200."
Gem Worldwide and the ground transportation industry as a whole is starving for drivers this summer. New employees earn up to $50,000 to start.
"Now that travel and retail travel and meetings and conventions are back so strong, there is a tremendous demand for staff," Gulino said.
Gem Worldwide is looking to hire 45 to 50 drivers this summer for their fleet of cars and buses. And it's one of the industries that is hiring the most.
Year over year, the biggest hirers are private educational services, child care services, private colleges and universities, and the food service industry.
