A rash of elevator robberies in Bronx apartment buildings in the past three months has prompted police to step up security measures.
Victims in several apartment buildings on University Avenue say they were robbed at gunpoint. Police have installed security cameras in the buildings to help catch suspects and hopefully deter future robbers.
Along with the cameras, several signs have been posted throughout the hallways of the buildings. The signs are from landlords and police warning about the break-ins. Many residents say they feel safer with the cameras, however, they hope police will be able to respond quickly if another incident occurs. Anyone with information on the robberies should call Crime Stoppers at (1-800) 577-TIPS (8477).
