The Economic Development Corporation rallied Bronx residents at the Kingsbridge Armory to announce it is accepting plans from developers in to rebuild the Armory.
Bronx residents say they will work to encourage developers to come forward with proposals for the rebuilding. They say the process took so long because the community was working with the EDC to make sure seven community benefit principals or standards were met. These include $10 minimum wage, benefits for all future Armory employees, jobs for community members during construction, and four schools with space for 2,000 students.
Many residents say they are glad the building will finally be more then an empty shell. They say they want schools and community centers created in the space to encourage meetings and programs.
