Domestic worker groups marked International Day of the Domestic Worker a day early with a rally outside the New Jersey State House Thursday morning.
The group rallied in support of the New Jersey Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. Advocates say they want meal breaks, rest time and discrimination protection for housekeepers, gardeners and other domestic workers.
“This is really important because it will protect all the domestic workers in the state, and if it's not something that they can pass, domestic workers will be suffering in this state. And it is their responsibility for the state to protect domestic workers,” Rukmani Bhattrai said through a translator.
The bill passed committee in the state Assembly and Senate last year but has not received a full vote in either.
