The rain, sleet and snow are making a mess across the Garden State Friday.
State Department of Transportation crews were out since Thursday night salting in preparation for the storm. Rain and snow changed to snow and sleet in the middle of the day, creating slick roadways. The main roads and the secondary roads were covered in ice for the evening commute.
The poor weather is to blame for several accidents on the New Jersey Turnpike and the Garden State Parkway. Due to the weather, speed restrictions have been posted for the Turnpike.
Meanwhile, the Farleigh Dickenson University campus in Florham Park saw an accumulation of 4 to 5 inches by Friday afternoon.
The snow and freezing rain also caused cancellations at major airports. JetBlue canceled 215 flights, including 14 from Newark Airport. Passengers on those canceled flights can get refunds or rebook travel through April 30, without paying a fee for the change. Several other airlines also canceled flights on the East Coast.
