Prosecutors: Paterson police officer fatally strikes pedestrian

The officer remained on the scene and attempted to help the pedestrian who was later pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center.

A 51-year-old Newark man was fatally struck Monday night by a vehicle driven by a Paterson police officer, according to prosecutors.
The incident occurred while the officer was pulling out of the police station parking lot just before 7 p.m., the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office said.
The officer remained on the scene and attempted to help the pedestrian who was later pronounced dead at St. Joseph’s University Medical Center.
The victim and officer were not immediately identified.
