A Red Bank man is facing charges following a crash in Lakewood that killed two people, including an 11-year-old girl, on Saturday night, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office says.
It happened around 11:20 p.m. at the intersection of Cross Street and Hearthstone Drive.
Officials say 43-year-old Raul Luna-Perez was driving a Dodge Durango on Cross Street and crossed into the oncoming lane of traffic and collided head-on with a Nissan Sentra.
Prosecutors say first responders saw that Luna-Perez showed signs of being impaired at the scene.
The female driver of the Sentra died at the scene, according to prosecutors. An 11-year-old girl who was in front seat was taken to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus where she died. The two victims have not been identified.
A second 11-year-old female passenger who was in the backseat of the vehicle was also taken to the medical center and is in serious but stable condition, according to prosecutors.
Two people in the Durango were taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for minor injuries and were released.
Luna-Perez was transported to the Ocean County jail where he remains ahead of a hearing, which has not been scheduled. He was charged with assault by auto and two counts of vehicular homicide.
