Police have arrested a Jersey City man in connection to the death of a 45-year-old woman who was killed while jogging in Lincoln Park last Sunday.
Prosecutors say the suspect has been identified as 33-year-old Jorge Rios. He is facing charges of murder, kidnapping and sexual assault.
Police say they found Carolina Cano's body in the water at Lincoln Park at around 7:30 a.m. last Sunday. Surveillance cameras caught her entering the park a little after 5:30 a.m.
According to officials, she was strangled and her body was dumped in the water.
Cano was an immigrant from Peru working as a live-in nanny. Friends say she enjoyed running at the park before church on Sundays.
Longtime runners at the park say they are relieved that the suspect was caught.
"I am a Jersey City resident I have been jogging here my whole life," says Mary Verdon. "I am glad he was caught so I can continue running safety."
Officials say there will continue to be increased police presence at the park so that everyone feels safe.
