A Newark woman is facing charges for a hit-and-run crash that left a cheerleader critically injured.
The crash happened on Feb. 4. The Essex County Prosecutor’s Office says Mia’Jah Burton, 33, was driving a Kia Forte when she struck the 18-year-old Arts High School cheerleader who was just getting off a bus from a cheerleading competition. Officials say that Burton struck the teen and did not stop.
Friends identified the teen as 18-year-old Chiara Jones. Officials say she remains in the hospital in critical condition.
Burton was arrested on March 1. She faces multiple charges and is being held at the Essex County Correctional Facility pending a detention hearing.
