The Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office is probing the death of a 2-year-old girl found unattended Tuesday afternoon inside a locked car in Franklin Township.
Police responded to a call Tuesday around 2:21 p.m. of a child in cardiac arrest at a residence on Summerall Road in Franklin Township. The child was found inside the car parked in the driveway.
After arriving, police observed a neighbor, who is a member of a local fire department, administering CPR on the unresponsive child. Following multiple life-saving measures, the child was subsequently pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities say the results of the preliminary investigation determined the girl had been left unattended in a vehicle. Further investigation will determine the exact length of time the child was in the vehicle, and the circumstances surrounding the events leading to the incident.
An autopsy is scheduled to be performed to determine the cause and manner of death.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit at (908) 231-7100 or the Franklin Township Police Department at (732) 873-5533.
