Prosecutor: Newark police officer shoots 15-year-old during investigation

A 15-year-old boy was shot by police officers in Newark, according to the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Officials say that officers were responding to reports of a suspicious car on Lyons Avenue. When officers approached the car, the driver allegedly drove toward the officers.
One of the officers fired his weapon, striking the 15-year-old, according to the prosecutor’s office. The teen was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. His condition was not known.
A 17-year-old was also in the car, according to officials. He was not hurt and was taken into custody.
