Two people have been found dead in an apparent murder-suicide in the Fords section of Woodbridge, according to the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.
Full details about the incident were not immediately released, but officials say that police officers were called to Soren Street just after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday for reports of an unconscious woman found lying on the front lawn.
Neighbors tell News 12 New Jersey that they believe that the woman was shot and that the person who may have shot her barricaded themselves inside the home.
Authorities have not confirmed this but have said that a second person was also found dead.
The incident prompted a large police presence. Soren Street near Ford Avenue was shut down for a period of time and police surrounded the home.
News 12 crews also heard what sounded like officers trying to negotiate with someone inside the home.
Neighbors tell News 12 that at least three people live in the home – two men and one woman. They say it was a mother, father and their adult son. Besides the woman, it was unclear who else was shot.
The situation left many in the area feeling shocked.
“This is terrible. This is really terrible. I don’t know what’s happening in this world,” says resident Jill Wagner.
The prosecutor says that although the investigation is ongoing, there is no threat to the public.
