A 17-year-old boy was charged with first-degree murder in connection to a hit-and-run incident at the Wawa in Old Bridge on Dec. 4.

The Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office says that the teen struck 61-year-old Andrew Padulano just before 7:40 a.m. outside the Wawa on Route 34. Officials say that the teen, who was not named due to his age, struck Padulano after an altercation between them. Padulano was an employee at the Wawa. The teen allegedly struck him with a Ford F-150.

Padulano was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. The teen was subsequently arrested.

Padulano died several weeks later on Jan. 23 and the charges against the teen were upgraded to first-degree murder and second-degree leaving the season of a crash resulting in death.

Officials say the teen is on home detention and will return to court in February for his next court hearing.
