Wall Township rescinded the promotion of a police captain to police chief Wednesday after he allegedly drove drunk.
Captain Bernard Sullivan is on paid leave after being arrested Saturday for allegedly driving drunk while off duty in his personal car. Witnesses complained that Sullivan?s vehicle ran a stop light on Route 35. Police say Sullivan was pulled over on Belmar Boulevard and arrested by a member of his own department.
Captain Dave Morris will become the officer in charge of the department while the Township Committee decides who will be the next chief. The committee is expected to discuss the issue at its next meeting on February 7. Meanwhile, if Sullivan is found guilty of drunk driving, he will face a disciplinary action meeting.
