Princeton native who was longest-serving US poll worker dies at 98
A Princeton native who was the longest serving poll worker in the U.S. has died at the age of 98.
Laura Wooten volunteered at elections since FDR was in office, dating back nearly 80 years.
Wooten also worked in food services at Princeton University for three decades.
News 12 had interviewed Wooten about the importance of voting during the November 2018 elections.
"A lot of us do not vote. They say, 'Our vote doesn't count,’” she had said. “But how can it count if they don't vote? That's the only way you're going to get changes made. I've seen a lot of changes but there's still a lot that need to be made.”
A viewing for Wooten will be held Monday from 11 a.m.to 1 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Princeton. A service will follow at the Princeton University Chapel.
