Powerful thunderstorms lefts parts of New Jersey under water Friday night.
The storms caused major flooding on roadways in southern New Jersey and prompted the National Weather Service to issue several flash flood warnings.
Lakewood police say they have had to make numerous rescues of motorists who had become stranded in the flooding.
As of Friday evening, Route 9 between Prospect and James streets was impassable. Ocean and New Hampshire avenues were also flooded.
Lakewood police say that there are traffic lights out, additional flooded roadways and some flooded homes.
The storms left thousands of people without power for a time as well. Crews were out working to restore the lights.
