For decades. folks who have (shudder to think!) tuned into another TV station besides News 12 on Saturday mornings have gotten time-worn advice about fruits and vegetables from a Jersey guy nicknamed “Produce Pete.”
Peter Napolitano, along with co-author Susan Bloom, has written an autobiography "They Call Me Produce Pete - Food Memories and Cherished Family Recipes from America's Favorite Expert on Fruits and Vegetables."
Host of the long-running Saturday morning segment called “Produce Pete” on WNBC-TV, Napolitano grew up selling produce door-to-door for his father and later logging long seven-hour days at the family produce stand in Bergenfield. The book is part cookbook, part autobiography. It is an incredibly familiar Jersey tale and a uniquely American success story.
On today's episode of "Brian's Positively New Jersey,” News 12's Brian Donohue and Produce Pete visit Napolitano’s childhood home and the former home of Napolitano's Produce to talk about work, life and, of course, vegetables.
