The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has launched its new Agency Operations Center in Jersey City to enhance traveler safety and help reduce congestion.
The agency says the new center will help increase the efficiency of operations and incident responses across its entire cross-Hudson transportation network.
"If you're traveling, you want to know how long it will take to get from point-A to point-B. You now will know how long it will take on our segment to transport yourself," says Port Authority COO Stephanie Dawson.
The center monitors real-time information on traffic levels at the agency's tunnels, bridges, bus terminals, airports and seaports, as well as ridership on the PATH rail system. It will be staffed around the clock.
The AOC is located within the Port Authority's Emergency Operations Center at the Port Authority Technical Center in Jersey City.
It will also pay attention to things like long-term road construction projects and special events like the recent visit of Pope Francis.
