Most people consider pets as part of the family or one of their children, but some people say those are the only children they want to have. 

Pope Francis thinks that's a mistake. 

Yesterday, the pope called couples who choose to have pets as their children "selfish."

The pope also called the decision "a detriment to civilization" and claims that it leads to a loss of humanity.
