New Jerseyans like to complain and may act a little rambunctious once in a while out on the road. But a new poll seems to suggest that 80% of New Jerseyans are quite happy.
Rutgers and Fairleigh Dickinson universities teamed up to conduct the survey. According to the poll, 80% of state residents describe things in their life as “happy,” with 20% stating that their lives are “very happy.”
The survey looked at some key factors to determine happiness, including race, education and income. New Jersey’s white residents were generally happier than the state’s black and Hispanic population, according to the survey. Married residents were also generally happier than those who were not married.
Education and income were also linked to happiness – with those with higher levels of education and greater income expressing generally greater happiness.
The survey also looked at political affiliation and found that 82% of Republicans described themselves as “happy,” compared to 76% of Democrats. Independents were generally the happiest at 85%.
News 12 New Jersey asked some state residents what made them happy living in the Garden State. Answers ranged from the fresh produce from New Jersey farms, the proximity to the beaches and the state’s economy.
More information about the survey can be found here.
