A 40-year-old Ridge man was charged with second-degree murder in the shooting dead of a 33-year-old woman inside her car in Moriches.
Suffolk police say Rebecca Roth was found shot to death in her car Friday morning in a parking lot in her development at the Tall Oaks Luxury Apartments. Authorities say the victim was found by her mother.
Police roped off a second parking lot. They say a key piece of evidence was later found underneath a pickup truck.
"Another resident came out to his truck and found a piece of evidence located underneath his truck. He called 911, added Beyer.
Police say James Quininchetta was arrested and charged. He was scheduled to be arraigned on Saturday.
Rebecca Roth’s mother spoke exclusively to News 12.
"Boom, boom, boom – he put five shots into my baby," she said. "How do you kill a young girl that you hardly know who has a family?"
Authorities say Quininchetta turned himself into police. Prosecutors in court said Quininchetta shot and killed Roth because she owed him $1,500. He is being held without bail.
His next court appearance is scheduled for June 12.
