Authorities say a Sussex County struck a police cruiser while driving drunk.

Sparta police responded Tuesday to the scene of a crash along Route 15. While two officers assessed the initial damage, a gray Ford struck the patrol vehicle.

Authorities immediately responded and identified the driver as 43-year-old Nicole C. Romeo, of Hamburg.

During questioning, officers say they noticed the smell of alcohol and her slurred speech. Authorities say Romeo admitted to having a glass a wine earlier in the day, stated that she was looking down at her phone prior to the collisions and said she did not have a valid drivers license.

Romeo now faces several charges, including driving while intoxicated and driving while suspended.
