(06/21/06) TRENTON ? Police officers moved in on a Trenton neighborhood Wednesday to secure the area following a fatal gang-related shooting.
Officers put up barricades, moved in lighting equipment and set up a mobile command post in what is being called a ?zero-tolerance zone.? The police presence comes on the heels of a drive-by shooting that left one man dead and another child injured Monday. According to police, the move will help prevent any type of gang retaliation.
In addition to preventing gang-related activity, police hope the zero-tolerance zone helps establish good relations between officers and residents. They hope this encourages members of the community to step forward and help relatives possibly involved in the gang lifestyle. Police say the barricades, which have been set up on the Dr. Martin Luther King Boulevard and West Ingham Street area, will stay up as long as needed.
