Washington Township police are seeking to identify a woman who was seen putting a child in the trunk of her car on Saturday night.

Police say the incident took place just before 5 p.m. near the 600 block of Chestnut Street.

Officers responded to the scene after a resident reported witnessing a white female in her mid 30s help a 7 to 8-year-old child get into the trunk of the car before taking off.

The resident told police that there was no struggle or altercation as the woman helped the child into the trunk.

The woman is described as having brown hair and a medium build, according to authorities.

Police say the car was last seen heading westbound on Washington Avenue toward Pascack Road.

Police shared a photo of the vehicle, a dark red Toyota sedan. Police say it is possibly a Camry or Corolla.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact police.
