New Jersey State Police are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying a man suspected of trying to kidnap a child from a Cumberland County Wawa.
Police say that the incident happened on May 28 just before 12:30 p.m. at the Wawa located at 3904 State Highway 47 in Maurice River.
They say that the victim, a 7-year-old boy, reported that the older man approached him in the bathroom and offered him candy to leave with him. Police say that the boy declined and the man then grabbed the boy’s arm and tried to physically remove him from the store.
The boy broke free and ran to his mother who was using the women’s restroom, according to police.
The man was able to get away before police arrived. He is described as a white man with gray, thinning hair. He was last seen wearing blue jeans and a maroon or burgundy colored T-shirt. It is believed that he was driving a white Toyota 4-Runner.
Anyone who might recognize the suspect is urged to call the New Jersey State Police Port Norris Station at 856-785-0036. Anonymous tips are welcome.
