Police are searching for the suspect who shot three people in Plainfield on Friday, killing one and injuring two.
While police say they know who they are looking for, they have yet to release a name or description of the suspect.
The incident occurred at around 2:30 p.m. Friday on the 300 block of Astor Place.
The Union County Prosecutor's Office says the man killed was 24-year-old Anthony Bowles, of Plainfield. He was pronounced dead at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital. A witness says Bowles was walking along Evona Avenue to visit his girlfriend when someone in a car fired three shots. That was followed by more rounds, which sounded like automatic gunfire.
Bullet holes are still visible in the house Bowles was standing in front of when he was shot. There, a 6-year-old girl and her 33-year-old stepmom were shot as well. The girl was taken to a hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds to her leg, while her mother received medical treatment on the scene.
Plainfield Mayor Adrian Mapp says this is an isolated incident.
"In the first six, seven months of the year crime is down by 19 percent and we continue to work hard making sure the city is safe," says Mapp.
Mapp also says the city has installed 30 surveillance cameras to aid police. However, neighbors have pointed out that no cameras are posted at West Third Street and Evona Avenue, an area known for shootings and drug activity.
