A Hillside man was shot and killed in his driveway Friday night in what police are calling a botched robbery attempt.

Police say the shooting occurred as Richard Plinio was getting out of his SUV at his home on Wilder Avenue. Police believe the intent was to steal the vehicle but Plinio ended up dead instead.

Neighbors say they are shocked that such a thing could happen. Even with the increased police presence and watchdogs, residents say they don?t feel safe. Police say this is the first homicide in the township since 2004.
