Piscataway police officers fatally shot a man armed with a knife and then subsequently found three people dead inside a home, according to the New Jersey Office of the Attorney General.
Officials say that Piscataway police officers were called to a home on River Road Monday around 5:30 p.m. for reports of a man armed with a knife. They say that when the officers arrived, they shot and killed a man armed with a knife who they encountered at the home.
The officers subsequently found three people dead inside the house. No further details were released, but authorities have classified these deaths as homicides.
“This appears to be an isolated incident, and there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the community. At this time, there is no danger to the general public,” authorities wrote in a statement.
Sources tell News 12 that four of five police officers were taken to the hospital for evaluation and are expected to be OK. It was not clear what injuries they may have received.
New Jersey State PBA President Peter Andreyev wrote in a statement, "We are aware of the horrific crime in Middlesex County tonight. All our members that were involved are being evaluated. Thank you to all who have reached to offer support."
The identities of the people involved have not yet been released.
