Multiple cars were torched overnight in a Burlington County neighborhood, according to police.
Mount Laurel police say that six cars were destroyed in a shared driveway on Willow Turn in the township early Tuesday morning. The incident woke up several neighbors.
“I looked out the window and there were at least two or three cars already on fire,” says Ken Doherty. “By the time, five minutes later, I came downstairs, six cars were engulfed in flames…it looked like hell.”
Police say that the fire department came to the 200 block of Willow Turn around 3:30 a.m. It was unclear how the fire started, but the fire marshal is investigating alongside police.
No one was inside the cars at the time, no homes were damaged and no injuries were reported.
The neighbors say that they were fearful that their homes would also catch on fire.
“I’ve never been this close to burning cars before, and especially six of them,” says Doherty. “I’m glad everybody’s OK. I’m glad it didn’t jump to the building.”
Police say that they do not believe that there is any threat to the community. They are asking anyone who may have more information about the incident to contact them.
