Hudson County law enforcement officials say that a man is facing charges after he allegedly stole his friend’s car with a baby inside.
Police say that the child’s mother asked 36-year-old Lawrence Simmons to watch her car and baby for a moment. The two were acquaintances.
Simmons then allegedly took off with the vehicle and crashed near Martin Luther King Drive and Bidwell Avenue in Jersey City. Police say that he took off, leaving the car and baby behind.
The child was found inside the car and was unharmed. Simmons was arrested a short time later.
Simmons was charged with carjacking and kidnapping.
