Investigators say more vehicle break-ins and thefts in Wall Township were reported over the weekend, ending in an armed carjacking in Newark.
Police say four thieves first targeted the Manasquan Shores neighborhood in Wall Township late Friday night, stealing items from at least three vehicles along Pine Road.
They then stole a 2015 Lexus parked at the Route 34 Wawa when the owner ran inside with his keys but left the car unlocked and running.
That stolen car was then used in an armed carjacking in Newark before police arrested one adult and one juvenile, according to investigators.
“We know what areas have been targeted. Again, to have this area targeted was a big surprise, it was just a matter of time,” said TR Finkenauer, who lives on the targeted street in the Wall neighborhood.
Washir Singletary, 29, of Newark was arrested and accused of driving the stolen car from Wall and for his suspected involvement in the armed carjacking.
The juvenile was not identified due to their age.
