(06/16/06) BASKING RIDGE ? Police say a Pingry School lacrosse player is under investigation for assaulting a rival player ? with help from his father.
Investigators say the Pingry student possibly confronted a Ridge High School player in the Ridge parking lot following a match between the two teams. Police say the Pingry student is accused of later assaulting the Ridge player. Instead of moving in to break up the fight, the Pingry Student?s father may have jumped in to join the fray.
If the allegations are true, the father could be charged under a new law that penalizes parents who join fights when children are present. The Pingry player in question is 17 years old, so his identity is being withheld. The Ridge High School principal did not wish to comment on the matter. A call to the headmaster of the Pingry School was not returned.
